The exhibition entitled "Carlo Donegani, una via da seguire", organised by the Liceo Scientifico Carlo Donegani (secondary school specializing in scientific studies) in association with the Province of Sondrio and Credito Valtellinese Foundation, will be opened on Monday March 19.
The exhibition will be hosted at the Province's Sala Ligari and at Credito Valtellinese Gallery inside Palazzo Sertoli, in Sondrio, until April 7 2001.
Carlo Donegani (1775-1845) was the engineer entrusted by Vienna Imperial Administration with the design and supervision of the Spluga (from 1818 to 1822) and the Stelvio (1820-25) state roads. This led to open, in an extraordinarily short time, two lines of communication of strategic importance, as they made Valtellina and Valchiavenna closer to the most important areas in Europe.
Original layouts by Donegani, graphs and iconography documents belonging to the school and of different provenance, along with technical instruments of the 19th century are exhibited at Palazzo Sertoli and Palazzo della Provincia
