During the "International Exhibition of documentary films on Parks", which is the only one of its kind all over the world, hosted in Sondrio from October 13 to November 13 1999, Credito Valtellinese Gallery in Palazzo Sertoli is mounting Cesare Benaglia one-man show entitled "The wood and the vision". The artist from Bergamo presents a corpus of primordial materials: finds and various sediments, knotty and twisted roots of oaks, poplars, chestnut trees; worm-eaten and ant-eaten barks; trees deprived of their pulp and sap. "Life of nature is only in the heart of men. To see it, we must feel it". According to Domenico Montalto's critical text, this excerpt from "Emile" by Jean Jacques Rousseau provides the reading key of Cesare Benaglia's work. "He celebrates the wooden womb and the cavity, the world sylvan womb, unique metaphor of the complex dark gemmation and proliferation that preside, as immutable laws, over the everlasting phenomenon of life. His sculptures and paintings, in fact, offer a visual stigma of the repertoire of natural shapes that he met along his beloved rivers Brembo and Quisa".
