The exhibition and the catalogue bring together some of the most original and representative names that have studied at the Fondazione Studio Marangoni School over the last ten years.

Established in 1989 to promote contemporary photographic culture, the Fondazione soon extended its activities to include teaching, setting up a three-year course for professional photographers. Over the last ten years, both these activities have been guided by the same spirit: a propensity for research and a desire to offer original angles on the contemporary world, as constant conceptual points of reference for cultural promotion as well as the training of young photographers.

If, on the one hand, an attempt has been made to extend, as much as possible, the cultural horizons of photography in Italy, calling on illustrious names from the world of Italian and international photography for exhibitions, seminars, workshops and awards, on the other hand, the School has tried to encourage up-and-coming artists, in an attempt to constantly establish innovative critical and cultural proposals which are open to new stimuli, offering an abundance of ideas for meditation.

The coherence of this vision is confirmed by the biennial photographic exhibitions, Firenze Fotografia 2000 and Toscana Fotografia 2002, as well as Focus on Italy (New York 1999 and 2001), the first Italian biennial Festival of Italian Photography to be organized outside the country; exhibitions where authoritative and well-established names come face to face with up-and-coming artists.

The young photographers in the exhibition and in the catalogue are a testament to the wealth of ideas and the attitudes which have always distinguished the Fondazione. Having already received wide critical recognition, and with many of them already fully integrated into the professional and artistic world, they are living proof that the Fondazione Studio Marangoni School has contributed to creating a generation of photographers who are capable of reading and interpreting the reality of our times, and to repropose it using a completely new and personal visual and artistic language.
