Opening competition of the Gruppo bancario Credito Valtellinese Golf Cup 2004 held at Valtellina Golf Club in Caiolo
Sondrio, May 4, 2004 - The opening competition of the Gruppo bancario Credito Valtellinese Golf Cup 2004 was held on Sunday May 2, 2004 at the Valtellina Golf Club located in the village of Caiolo, near Sondrio.
The tournament schedule includes six more competitions to be held at very famous Golf Clubs located around Lombardy and Sicily and the Final, which will be held on September 21, 2004 at the Villa d'Este Golf Club.
This sporting initiative set up by the Credito Valtellinese banking Group in association with local firms (Consorzio Tutela Formaggi Valtellina Casera e Bitto, Consorzio Tutela Vini Valtellina, Salumificio Rigamonti S.p.A, Del Zoppo Bresaole S.r.l., Salumificio Panzeri S.r.l, Bagni di Bormio S.p.A) is intended to promote cultural traditions and the culinary heritage of Valtellina throughout Italy and in the world, to preserve and enhance tourism.
A wooden gazebo at the Golf Club provides a shady place to taste the finest selection of wine, cheese and bresaola from Valtellina in the afternoon sun.
Gruppo Credito Valtellinese Golf Cup 2004 is also a charity event to support ABIO - Associazione per il Bambino in Ospedale - a campaigning organisation for the rights of children in hospital. For many years now, Abio has been committed to reducing the impact of hospitalization on the child and his family.
The Stableford competition played by 3 categories of golfers was won by Carlo Moro (1st Gross). In the first category, the 1st place was won by Fabrizio Cattani with 38 points, in 2nd place was Valentina Tafuro with 37, in 3rd place Fernando Grattirola with 36. In the second category, the 1st place was won by Luca Vaninetti ahead of Carlotta Perego and Guido Bianchi Albrici. Third category results were as follows: Tommaso Leidi finished in 1st place ahead of Davide Oldani in 2nd and Mariangela Schiantarelli in 3rd. Players who have won the 1st place in each category, as well as the 1st Gross, will compete in the Final at Villa d'Este. Official invitation to compete for the title of best golfer was made by a panel made up of representatives of the Sponsors of the Tournament (i.e. Mr Emilio Rigamonti, Mr Franco Sala, Mr Casimiro Maule and Mrs Isabella Pelizzatti Perego).
