 Degree in Primary Education Theory
Wednesday, July 24 2002 - the Chairman of the Credito Valtellinese Group Foundation Francesco Guicciardi and the chancellor of Milan Università Cattolica Michele Colasanto have signed an agreement to confer a new degree in theory of primary education. Lectures are expected to start at the beginning of the next academic year. To this aim videoconferences will be held in Sondrio and at the Credito Valtellinese Group Foundation Training Centre in Tresivio. The new degree will allow taking the teacher's diploma examination for nursery and primary schools.
"The new degree in Primary Education Theory - said Francesco Guicciardi - is an opportunity to guarantee a top level primary education for the pupils from Valtellina, thus avoiding a sort of decline, which would have a negative impact on the social and economic structure of our province. The competent authorities within the provincial administration had already raised problems associated with the latest reform of the Education System. In fact, since a degree in theory of primary education is now required to teach at primary schools, the province of Sondrio is having difficulties in finding good teachers as universities are far from this area. Our project - Guicciardi lastly said - has been started thanks to a fruitful co-operation between the Credito Valtellinese Foundation and Milan Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, as well as to the support provided by the provincial government. That's why I also wish to say thanks to the provincial administration"
The initiative was already presented on the occasion of a meeting, which was held at the Credito Valtellinese Sala Vitali, in Sondrio, on July 8 2002. All the participants immediately appeared to be very interested in the project. At present, in fact, a great number of students - much more than the minimum number required to start lectures - have already enrolled. However, enrolling in advance is not binding, as the enrolment will be formalized and the fees will be paid only in September. It is nevertheless important, because it provides an estimate of the number of students and allows defining the organizing guidelines for the first academic year.
