The grant-giving ceremony 'A year abroad', which is sponsored by the Credito Valtellinese Group, in association with Intercultura, was held on June 3 2002 at 12h.00, inside Palazzo Sertoli dance hall, in Sondrio. Intercultura was established in 1995. Since then, it has been a partner of major organizations for intercultural exchanges in the world, such as the 'AFS Intercultural Programs', based in New York, and the 'EFIL', which is based in Brussels.
The grant A year abroad has now been given for eight years to teen-agers between 14 and 16 years' old, who are also Bankaperta Junior account holders (with the Credito Valtellinese and the Credito Artigiano). The grantee is going to spend the school year from 2002 to 2003 in an overseas country, which he is choosing from a number of countries both in Europe and in the rest of the world. During his stay there, the grantee is going to attend a local high school.
In September 2001, the initiative was advertised by mail, in the local press and by the Intercultura employees, who have been informing students in the local schools.
Alice Baldaccini, a 17-year old student from Sondalo, has been given the grant A Year Abroad. She will spend one year in Wisconsin, U.S.A.
Alice has been given the grant by the Credito Valtellinese under-General Manager Miro Fiordi, who has congratulated the young student from Sondalo on her school career and has said Alice all best wishes for the future from the Credito Valtellinese banking Group. Guests at the grant-giving ceremony were the Italian Intercultura chairwoman Anna Pozzi Sant'Elia, Intercultura regional co-ordinator Concetta Giamminola Buglisi, the chairwoman of the local centre in Sondrio Wladia Scherini, and all the Baldaccini family.
Since the project has met with the favour of the young account holders and all grantees have achieved excellent results, the Credito Valtellinese Group is offering the same opportunity to the students from the local high schools also next year. The winner will choose his destination from both European and non-European countries available.
